Lake Tarpon 14lbs. 13ozs.
Between 7 and 8 lbs. Several times caught two on one lure. Largest one I ever hooked and seen I estimated over 12 lbs of of a 12" golden shiner. It came out of the water so I had a good look at it ,finally got it near shore and it did a power dive and broke my line.I still have nightmares of that fish.
When I was fifteen we took a trip down to Lake Guerrero in Mexico. It's one of them places you see advertised in Field & Stream that guarantees 100 bass per day. My dad's friend lived in Houston and had been going down there to fish and hunt whitewing dove for years, and he knew which place to go to on the south side of the lake. We spent 4 days fishing, and by the third day I was so tired of catching bass it wasn't even funny! Me, my brother and our host's son went out the last day with a 16 year old guide, and spent most of the day just hauling ass around the lake, throwing rocks at ducks, and flirting with some Mexican girls who were swimming in a cove. Wish we'd have met them two days earlier! But there was rarely a cast that didn't produce a strike, and if one got off another would jump on it before you could reel it to the boat. Had many doubles on the 6 inch Rapala. Problem is, they were all about 12-14 inches! I think the biggest we caught was around 3 pounds. I caught one that size the first morning on topwater, and my dad caught one that size working a crankbait off a dropoff. But we had fun and ate good, that's for sure.
