My first fish was a 6# rainbow trout from my gramp's pond in PA. Next was an 8" wild brook trout in a mountain stream no deeper than a cup of coffee, again, with my gramps. Man, I sure miss him. Have to see what pictures I can dig up.

My brother is like that. I usually caught more, but he always seemed to catch the biggest or the most unexpected.
When he was 11, he caught a 4 pound speckled trout during the local month-long fishing contest. It was the first week of the contest, and his was biggest weighed in up til then. Usually it took at least an 8 pounder to win the trout contest each year. He was just hoping to win his age division. Well, 4 weeks later, his was still the biggest trout caught, and he won a custom rod and reel.
His second bass, caught when he was 11, weighed 12 pounds, caught on a little South Bend spinning outfit, fiberglass pole, 8lb test mono, bought at a flea market for $3.
Just a few years ago, while fishing about 5 miles out of Stump Pass in Englewood, we were all catching grunts and snappers, an occasional under size grouper. Suddenly he hooks something that starts to peel off line. Shark? King? Nope. After a couple trips around the boat, he pulls in a 15 pound permit!
Better lucky than good, I guess!
PERMIT. nice..
Never sure if this was a pompano or a permit.
I think that is a permit
