Hey Guys, seeing as how winter is over its time to start thinking about fishing again. I rescued my dads old boat from the side of my grandma's house up in Quincy before she passed away and it's been leaning up against my house for awhile. I finally pulled it out to replace the transom because I knew the wooden repair job was rotted. Here's what I found:
I plan on getting a couple of pieces of aluminum from a friend of mine who owns a metal shop in Tarpon and sandwiching the bad section between the two good ones. I'll post my progress. Hopefully I have it in the water soon. :rolleyes
Sounds like a plan. Happy :fish
yeah, I've got a lot of good memories is this boat. Me, my dad and my brother used to go fishing and camping just about every weekend when I was younger...before I got too cool in highschool. This boat has caught a LOT of fish on the Ocklocknee & Little rivers up in the panhandle. We even took it scalloping in the St. Andrews Bay on occasion. Many, many good times. Time to let my grandbabies experience it :>)
ILuv2hunt's pictures of his dad and him when he was little brought back those memories so I decided now was the time to get started on it...I ain't gettin' any younger. :eek
Holy Smokes! :eek I can't believe it's been this long since I started this thread!. I finally started working on the boat again, so I thought I'd update this post... Haha man, talk about a long project. Anyhow, the photos below are from the transom repair. I basically installed a new aluminum transom by drilling and riveting the new "patches" on either side. The top of the transom was cracked so I put a support brace over that and will add another for strength on Monday.
Keep at it, Brother! You'll get 'er done sooner or later. That boat is something special for you and your family.
