People should have some what of an idea were they are at before entering the woods.

+1 to that!
Get out there for the first time in the day light and walk around a little. Get acquainted with the area. Find some landmarks.
And no matter what even if you have a GPS, BRING A COMPASS!!!!! The only place a compass won't work is under the big powerlines in Green Swamp lol. If you have a compass and the map, you shouldnt be getting lost

And DO NOT RELY on the digital compass on a GPS. It is a worthless function. I argued with mine the other day because i can tell what damn direction North is on a cloudy day just by instinct. It was showing North behind me. Finally drug out my regular compass and it confirmed that I was right

911 CALL/VIDEO/PHOTOS: Searchers hear moaning, yet still haven't found missing man in Everglades

NAPLES — Search crews have found what are believed to be clues to where they might find Jamey Mosch, according to a supervisor for the Collier County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team.

Deputies found a ThermaCELL, a device hunters clip to their belts to deter mosquitoes, about 1,200 yards through dense vegetation east of Turner River Road and north of Interstate 75, late Tuesday afternoon.

At about 11:30 this morning, searchers also found a boot print near a pond further southeast of the camp where Mosch was last seen on Monday.

There are also other signs that might not be as good. A flock of buzzards have been seen on the other side of the pond, according to Sgt. Bob Brown, a trainer and supervisor with the Emergency Response Team. Brown said the pond is also filled with water moccasins and several large alligators.

When the ThermaCELL was found, dogs followed the trail until they lost the scent. Search crews are now concentrating their efforts in the 1.3-mile area surrounding the pond and southeast of the campground. Authorities are also bringing in airboats to get access to this area, which is surrounded by water and swamp.

Brown said the task of finding Mosch, 30, has been doubly difficult since he was wearing a camouflage-hunting outfit.

“Finding a green man in a green swamp isn’t an easy endeavor,” Brown said. “We are doing everything in our power to improve his survivability, give him as much a chance as possible.”

The search, in a swamp filled with alligators and venomous snakes, is also dangerous for the searchers. Brown said that someone with a rifle is in position with each search group to shoot anything that poses a potential threat.
