I saw a discounted ram hunt in North Central FL and thought I might try something different. And, I don't have a place to deer hunt so it might allow me to get in some kind hunting this year. I could grab a hog while there too.
I've really become attached to my smoker and feel that it can take a "not so tasty" piece of meat and make it "quite tasty". (as well as a tasty piece of meat and make it amazing!)
Has anyone taken a ram or goat and tried the meat in different ways?
Thanks!!
I've heard it is awesome, never tried but my wife has. She said some Mexicans BBQ'd one at a stable once and she loved it. Those Boer goats are supposed to be pretty good. Goats milk and goat cheese is good too.
I've had "cabrito" down in Mexico, which is a young goat roasted on a spit, and it was good. Tried mutton (sheep) several times, and just can't eat it. Tried bbq'd lamb once, was not quite as strong as the mutton, but still had a hard time finishing my one little chop. Ate a bunch of mint jelly with it. Maybe smoking the ram/goat really long and slow after an extended marinade, and large quantities of rum or bourbon for me and it might taste ok!
Unlike cabrito, a very young goat a ram is not very good, ask the guys you are going to hunt with WTF to do w the meat.
I've had domesticated goat cook on the grill. It was not bad but I'm not going to out of my way to get any more.
