It's been a while since I've posted but I've been lurking still. I have been looking and dreaming of a kamado cooker for years. I have been wanting a big green egg or a primo for years but can't justify dropping a grand on a grill. Anyway on the bbq forums I'm on especially kamado guru I had been hearing about one made by chargriller sold at lowes. I went and checked it out. All I can say is amazing. The cooker is 299. I got lucky in that mine is pretty air tight and haven't had to do any mods to it,but the mods they talk about on the forums are less than 50 dollars. It's not ceramic its double walled steel and very well insulated. I bought one 8 pound bag of lump charcoal and have cooked at least 6 times including the 4th which was a 14 hour low and slow and I still have enough for 2 or 3 more cooks. Pizza is on the menu tomorrow. With the efficiency of this thing it will pay for itself in no time. For anyone in the market for a kamado you owe it to yourself to check these out.
I saw one of them in Lowes on Sunday. Looked interesting and I have a Chargriller smoker that's held up for years now. Thought about putting that on the list of things to buy...
Go on kamado guru.com and read the reviews. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
I saw one at lowes and looked at it pretty thoroughly.... i just cant afford the bge and this looked comparable and $ is more in line with what i will be able to spend when i am ready for a grill.
It is very comparable to an egg. The cooking surface is actually a little larger than a LG. egg. Keep youre eyes open at womb Dixie also they have the same unit and when they put there's on sale lowes will match the price. The guys on some of the other forums are getting some amazing prices. I love the kamado style of cooking. I figure as much as I grill the money I save in charcoal will pay for itself pretty quickly. The only problem now is being able to afford all the different foods I want to try on this thing. My oven has not been on since I bought it. I can have this up,running in about the same time it takes to preheat an oven.
