Went up to N Fl to do some last minute scouting on a WMA before next weekends hunt. Got up there mid-day yesterday and sat at the house watching it flood. :boat
Soon as the rain let up, I hit the woods and stayed till dark. Never saw a bird. Never heard a bird :wacko
Got up this morning before daylight, headed out there and walked in where I will be setting up opening morning. Ive killed a bird from this same spot 2 out of the last three years. Took my clippers out and made a blind at the base of an HUGE oak tree with some palmetto fronds.
Did not hear a bird. Did not see a bird :wacko
Did a bit of calling and never could get anything to respond. The woodpeckers were very vocal this morning, but not the first owl hooted.
Backed out of there and went to about 6 or so other spots. Listened and called. Heard one turkey gobble one time so far away not even sure where it was
Not really sure what's going on up there. Usually they are on fire right now. Hope they get going good this week, or it may be a late season
Here is my "View from the blind". Little open area about 50 yard circle that they like to strut in

And I wish this guy would take this damn ladder down so I could deer hunt this spot. ONe of the prettiest spots in the whole WMA
so whats stopping you from hunting it, just cuz he has a stand there doesn't make it his personell property. surely he won,t be hunting every day. leave him a polite note and tell him your interested in that area also and which days does he plan on using it. I've seen a few ladders out this year that I bet the owner only used 2-3x but there out for the whole season
If it's not supposed to be there after season ends screw him! I hate people who do stuff like that, by leaving it there they think they own that area. Most of the Wma's around here all stands have to be removed after seasons end. Tell the local ranger were it is and have it taken down. Or just put yours 30 yards away.

Huntin what? His stand?...No thanks.
First, that is a good way to get hurt. I do not trust the integrity of someone else's stand. I have no idea the condition of the straps or the ladder itself.
Second, his truck was parked there almost every day. There are plenty of places just as pretty and productive I can go.
Thirdly, it is out in the open. I like to set up a little more secluded
Fourth, It is not high enough. I use a climber and would be at least 30' up here in this spot.
Fifth, it is facing south. Needs to actually be about where i took the pic from and facing NW, so a right handed shooter will have an advantage
sixth, we beat this matter to death in the thread "Hunting others ladder stands on public land..." or whatever it was called
around here if they leave them out past the last day of the season the wardens and forestry take them, you can go to the ranger station here and get stands when they have them there, just go there tell them that yours got stole and ask if they have any old ones from bein left and they give them to ya. also they told us to take any we find home with us one month after all closed seasons give the guys a month they said just incase time didnt permit after that they are allready in violation and they are considered trash left on a wma. i've never taken one yet but i know where there have been a few for the past 3 years and they are still sittin there!
