Wow, Started to read more forum posts and this brings up another question.
I was reading about the man who killed a hog with a pellet rifle. Was that really a safe thing to do knowing the reputation that hogs have.
What caliper rifle or gauge shotgun would be the best to use on Wild hogs. I was going to use my old trusty 7mm Mauser. I really don’t want to overkill or under kill nor do I want the hog to run me up a tree if there is one close enough.

12, 20 ga slugs or your 7mm would be fine. worry more about 1 WELL PLACED SHOT. don't overthink it.

well, Marine.... victory through superior firepower... you have the gun they don't... lol 12 or 20 guage slugs work well. Just about any caliber rifle will do. with good shot placement. Been killing the heck out of them with the AR platform shooting .223 .

I have never owned, fired, or hunted hogs with 7mm mauswer caliber but it seems 7mm mauser is more than enough to hunt hogs, deers, and anything down here in FL.

I use .30-06 and 7.62x39mm (AK47 round) for hogs down here. I've been using 7.62x39mm instead of .30-06 due to the cost of ammo is alot cheaper and I have never fired 2nd rounds to bring hogs down. Every shot that I took, they went down with a one single shot with 7.62x39.

And 7.62x39 is smaller than .30-30 i believe.
