can you hunt hogs all year-round at any WMAs? Any close to Pinellas County?
no they have seasons, read the rules of the one you want to hunt they differ from each other.
I have read up on Green Swamp...sometimes the stipulations are a little confusing...like the hog-dog weekends...could I still hunt without a dog during those times or no? Thanks!
Yes you can but you must have a quota permit. The drawings are held in June and awarded in July or Aug.Go to limited entry in the hunting section on FWC's website. Everything you need to know about each wma is there.
A lot of WMA's have what they call a quota permit. It was confusing to me at first as well. Basicaly a quota permit is like a lottery ticket. You sign up for the "lottery" you would like to participate in, and if your lucky you get a quota permit for that hunt. During that time only the quota permit holders can hunt on that WMA during that time frame.
the lotteries used to be first come first serverd but they(Florida Wildlife management) changed the system last year, and now its random drawings.
Some WMA's like Green Swamp have an Opening Season Quota, which means for the first nine or so days, only quota permit holders can hunt on that property, after that any hunters can get a quota permit at the check stations for the day, on a first come first served basis. And yes sometimes there is a line at the check station 🙂
Good luck
