They have been completely nocturnal lately around here but for some reason they decided to take a stroll across the backfield about a half hour before dark. I saw there was about 12 so I grabbed the AR and headed towards them using a barn as cover. I got about 100 yards from them and set my sights on a black one, I dropped him in his tracks so I aimed at the mamma, Hit her and she hit the ground and did a few flips then got up and tore out. I shot at the rest of the scattering pack the best I could and ended up hitting another one for sure. The rest scattered to the woods. I'm pretty sure I hit a few others, But none confirmed yet....
I got the 4 wheeler and went in the woods looking for the big sow but never found her. I'm going to go back tomorrow in the daylight and look for her. I know I hit her good.
The black one was one shot to the head so all the meat on him was good. The other one wasn't so lucky. His whole right side caught hell. Both the shoulder and the ham were so blood shot they weren't worth keeping.
Good work. Keep shooting them and they might move on.
no expert and never trapped before but if you are trying to trap them wouldn't doing a spray and pray number just make them more skittish and drive them further away? if you had taken a few seconds more and fired one good shot only on the sow, given you more meat and not scattered the rest, educate & make them more wary? not trying to be a smart azz, just would seriously like to know.
Sometimes you just have to take the opportunity that is given you. If he hit the sow good she is probably dead some where and thinning them out is what they are wanting to do.
