How many of yall have open mouth trail dogs and how prevalent are they in Florida? I kind of want to get into hog hunting but I want to trail them like we do deer. If anyone knows of any for sale I'd like to try one out and have 99,000 acres with plenty of hogs on it to trial it on.

i hunt open mouth dogs, trailing & running. some say you cant stop many hogs with barking dogs though. i belive a good hog dog will stop a hog open or silent if the hog wants to stop. but i really prefer to run one hog all day & then catch off of him. when i do stop a dog killer i generally catch em & stick em. i run a black & tan as my main trail dog with a bluetick that helps him. will soon be going to all kemmer curs. i have 4 kemmers that a well started & one of them is making a trail dog. all open mouth curs.

You know that's all I hunt with. Where you hunting now? We been doing pretty good the last few weeks. We killed 3 this weekend, all were stopped by plotts and walkers and one bluetick. I'd say the plott is a little grittier of a dog and you have to be careful how many you pack.

I got phone video of my pack with a stopped hog from yesterday,we killed 3 on bay this weekend. I'd rather shoot them when they hit the road honestly,I'm to old to drag the damn things anymore.

Dang I thought most everyone hunted silent dogs on trail but I guess I was wrong in my assumption. My GF's brother hunted curs that were silent or semi-silent but I think I would enjoy it more with an open mouth dog trailing. I think I would like to shoot them crossing a road also. We'll see, I want to go with my GF's brother a few times before I go to getting more dogs. I have 3 grown deer dogs, 2 that are semi-started, and a puppy or two on the way.
