This may be something I would like to do as well. I am new to hunting and would love to go hog hunting. Don't need my hand held but would appreciate any help from the more experienced hunters if possible. I live in the Belleair Clearwater area so I would be up for chipping in on gas as well.
OK, trapper dan, looks like we have some interest in maybe a group coming up for a hunt. What size is considered "meat hog", and when do they become "trophy" hogs? Is it based on sheer size, or length of cutters, etc? Could we work out something for a group where you show us all how to clean, prep, pack the meat, etc.? Some of us might have experience with other animals, but not pigs, or we might need a refresher. Never hurts to see how somebody else does it!
Also, would these hunts be with bow, rifle, handgun, spear, knife, small pointy sticks, etc.? With or without dogs? What should we bring - coolers, plastic bags, gloves, sturdy boots, good knife or two, sharpener, etc.?
One last thing, how long is the meat hog price good for? Just need to know how soon we need to get up there and get 'er done!
Got a spot open tomorrow (saturday 3/5) in the afternoon?
I just might be interested. PM me if you guys are trying to out a specific date together!
Sorry for the delayed response guys the replies didn't go to my phone and I've been in the woods. The difference between a trophy and a meat hog is the size of there cutters. A trophy has cutters an 1.5 "'s or longer. Size of the hog does not matter nor does the weapon you want to use. We use dogs spot n stalk tree stands ground blinds what ever we have to do to get the job done. Yes bring coolers and if you can bring wrapping paper and masking tape. I can show (those who need it) how to debone and get every thing ready for the freezer at the house or the grill come on. I will try to post more monday when my hunts are done. The next good weekend is March 26.
