I was out fishing on the Homosassa River the other day and I saw 4 of the biggest, fattest hogs I have ever seen. They where sitting on the shore of one of the last Islands before you hit the gulf. They where just sitting in the sun without a care in the world. It was about 1:00 PM and I was the only guy on the river. I had my Glock 17 in my gear bag, but I did not take a shot, it did cross my mind more then once.
Later the same day I took my daughter for a bike ride in Chass and we saw all kinds of signs that hog had been there. I guess hogs know when the season is over and it is safe for them to come out and play.

IMHO that has to be about the most unethical thing i have seen posted here. don't know wether season was open or closed at the time. doesn't matter in my eyes. if you had fired a shot and hit it. would you have made every attempt to recover that animal?? to even consider or have the though "cross your mind" a few times, is just bad judgewment on your part. do you realyy think you could have dispatched that animal quickly and humanely with a shot from your glock from your boat?? but this is just my .02 worth. please feel free to give more details, maybe i'm just reading your post wrong.

well must of been over a week ago because small game in Homosassa ended Jan 10th.

And you are not allowed to hunt hogs with a handgun In Homosassa and you are not allowed to carry one unless you have a CWP.
BUT the brochure does not say you cant hunt hogs with a handgun but it all comes down to the specific rules set forth by the guy at the check station & the WMA in general.
The Ranger Eli at the check station says NO handguns allowed for hunting Small Game on that WMA.

Also you are NOT allowed hunt from the Homosassa River either (hunt the WMA). NO part of the WMA's Legal Hunting Area touches it. Now Porpoise Bay does touch the end of the north side BUT i doubt a boat would get in there.

Now if you are hunting private property off the Homosassa River then its a different story.

Btw Strunes does own land in chazz.
