There is a creek that runs behind my house. When I was a kid it used to always have water in it and would usually have a few fish in it. It drains out of a pond a couple miles away. It has had no water in it since the hurricanes of 2004. Last summer during the peak of the rainy season it had water for just a couple weeks. There is still no water now.
Yesterday morning I go open the garage door to get the newspaper and there is one of the biggest otters I have ever seen running across the street. I had been awake about 5 minutes and at first I thought it was a hog.
This morning me and JR are on our way to school. I back out of the driveway and there is a 100Lb+ alligator snapping turtle in my front yard. I have never seen one of those here.
I know we have had a lot of rain in the last month, but no water in the creek and the nearest pond is several hundred yards away, it is just weird to see 2 different aquatic animals 2 days in a row in my front yard
Better tell the boy to be carefull outside when playing. π―
You aint kiddin. I can't tell you all the cottonmouth's I have killed in this yard over the years. When there is water in the creek, I have them. With the amount of rain we have had here, it shouldn't be too long
since all that rain we had everythings on the move, at the golf course I work at gators are everywhere, and the turtles are nesting. A couple wma's are swamped and have gators in ditches and alot of the trails are flooded. tons of cottonmouths
with all the rain i just have to mow more. thats crazy about the turtle, i had about a 30lb snapper in my back yard one day, it came out of the ditch that borders my back yard. not really sure where it was headed cause there arent any ponds close by. those things are rank, have you ever seen a turtle jump?
