Okay all you outdoor people, what do y'all think dug this hole? It is at the base of a dead oak, it's over 6 foot deep, at about a 45 degree angle. There are to different places where the hole started on the surface, they intersect about 18 inches deep then turn into the one tunnel. It had rained on it when we first noticed it, so there were no tracks. I don't remember there being a gopher hole in this location, it is at the edge of a woods road that we travel fairly regularly. This is on a high ridge that is between a couple of branches. In fact it is about 50 feet from the site where we spotted the fawn lying in the bushes last year. The picture with the dog gives an idea of how big the hole is, she weighs 65 lbs. Years ago we found a hole like this and there was a calf hide/carcass down in it, figured it was a coyote den back then.
What are your thoughts? Doesn't look like it has been tended since we 1st found a week or ago.

Yote den
Fox
I said coyote simply for the fact that the hole looks too big for a fox. Reason I say that....I have pics of a fox den on my phone from a customers house. He said there was a pregnant female that had a litter of 4 using it. I went there one day and a fox ran out of it. That hole I saw was a lot smaller in size than this one. They both look similar. Could be either
Gnome. A big one.
