not too sporting for hunting, but if loaded with rock salt and aimed at crotch level would make a dandy burglar deterrent.

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing

Setup over a foodplot in an area with a high hog population? And it wasn't rifles? It must have been a control/test model then for something more advanced.
