Have you transplanted yankees checked on your families? Watching some of the news coverage now and it is amazing the destruction the storms left behind. They certainly need prayer/help.
it's very difficult to get thru by phone as circuits are very busy. no word from one tough old Aunt that still lives alone after recovering from a bathroom fall/broken neck and still drives and volunteers at the hospital at 88 y/o. she lives on a steep hillside with lots of big old oaks around her. if there is a silver lining, I can see many electricians/sheetrockers and general construction jobs opening up.
I believe this storm will be the worst event to ever happen to this country (not in lives lost), involving 25 states and such a large path of destruction. we've had word from most friends/relatives. most worried about some cousins on Staten Island, no word yet. reports from cousins in Brooklyn of gangs/groups looting and apartment/homeowners banding together to protect theirs with bows/arrows whatever. gotta love Gov Christie in N.J. telling homeowners to shoot to kill looters. I wish the military would place snipers with nightvision allover. the word were getting is the gas shortage, fear of generators being stolen and of a cold front looming is most on their minds. some have power back others are looking at 3 weeks maybe. any trade guys needing work, head north the work will be there. no idea who will pay you.
I am always amazed at the amount of low lifes that come out in times of need................I say kill all of them looters and make the world a little bit better. If in need ask, steal die.
just an idea. have the gov't make a deal with auto makers to build fleets of disaster relief trucks painted so they are easily identified and given free to tradesmen with a gas card in exchange for a years service in disaster areas. let the men keep whatever they earn, without gouging and maybe even a income tax break. the bright colors would let police ID them and give them free passage without worry of a speeding ticket, let them into restricted areas even after curfews, it would be a big moral boost, let people along the way show their appreciation possibly with a free meal from restauraunts or a thank you, put unemployed needed men to work and help those in need. plus they could be on a registry for the next storm/disaster of the century we seem to be having every few years. how many trucks could be bought for what they pay for a single presidential tv ad. maybe even put some free advertising like, this truck donated by so and so on it. whatever it takes.
