I had a friend that had a motorcycle stolen not long ago, those are easy to stripdown ive heard and once their taken apart theres no finding them again, how would a boat fair? Is it anything like a car where u can track it down?

engine is prob worth more than boat and for all intents and purposes untraceable. boat has ser no. molded into transom that cant be easily hidden/replaced. boat will be abanded someplace... :death to the bastards!

Since like 1984 or so all new boats were required to have the ser# on the transom and several other places. I know at Wellcraft when I was working there, there was also a serial number on the port side of the hull up near the bow at rub rail level, and it would be covered by the deck cap when they joined the two pieces. There was also numbers placed on some of the stringers and in the engine bay, depending on which model boat it was. However, doesn't do much good when all they are after is the outboard, trolling motor, any electronics, steering cables, etc. and then just sink the gutted hull somewhere.

Unfortunately, if your friend didn't have insurance, more than likely he's just SOL. Doubt that boat will ever be seen again in any useful condition.
