So yesterday my neighbor comes home to discover a sink hole has opened up right under the one side of their house. We go over there and look and its about 20 ft deep and about 25-30 ft wide. Today, the engineers were out with sonar and other fancy pants technology and they discovered the hole to actually be under about 3/4 of the house. Im sitting here now and can here the house literally falling into the hole. The house is being condemned and they have to move out. They have insurance that covers sink holes so they are going to be fine. Just really sucks, and its next door so my parents are kind of freaking out. But can you imagine coming home to finding a huge hole that formed under your house? Crazy... :toast This is in Palm Harbor (not Gainesville)
Happened to my Brother in law about 7-8 years ago up in Land o Lakes. It wasnt as dramatic as that one, but the house dropped several inches in a matter of days. Insurance boughtt hem out and they pumped concrete under the hpouse, fixed it , and re-sold it
I thought spring hill was the sink hole capital. my wife was in the pool this fall and heard a rumbling, a house on the next block 100 feet straight away from my front door sank into the ground,the top of the garage doors were at ground level. house was demo'd and it looks like the whole cul de sac has been abandoned. too close for comfort. at least 20 sink holes within a few hundred yards. I've been told our "immediate area sits on a plateau and we are O.K., still keeping fingers crossed. we have sink hole insurance, can't wait to see how much thats gonna go up.
Yea we are trying to figure out what to do with our house. I can see the hole from my bedroom window, maybe 25 yards away if that. I ended up going over there last night around midnight with my dad to scope the wreckage and the engineers were in the house but all the power was turned off so no lights, we scared the sheet out of eachother 😆
I'd be for gettin a storage unit and move out some of the more important stuff for Florida eats ur house too. Hard to get everything out in a hurry.
