Man puts gun he thinks is unloaded in roomie's mouth, pulls trigger, deputies say

A 19-year-old Pasco County man has been charged with manslaughter after investigators say he put a shotgun barrel in his roommate's mouth and pulled the trigger, not knowing the gun was loaded.
The shooting happened at 22709 Penny Loop, in a Land O'Lakes subdivision named Lake Padgett South. Michael Dunkley, 20, was pronounced dead at about 12:30 a.m. His roommate, James B. Hopkins, was later booked into the Land O'Lakes jail on a manslaughter charge.
According to the sheriff's office, Hopkins was showing a shotgun to Dunkley and several other men who were in the home's screened porch. Hopkins ejected the shell, but as the shotgun was being handled by the group, someone put the shell back in the gun.
Hopkins, "apparently not aware the round had been placed back in the shotgun, places the gun in the mouth of the victim and pulls the trigger, killing the victim,'' a sheriff's office news release states.
The sheriff's office received a 911 call about the incident at 12:22 a.m.
