growing up I got poison ivy every summer. fortunately we also spent the summer down the Cape. ocean salt water always cleared me up. also our doctor, country type, said one builds an immunity over time. I haven't seen any poison ivy up there though. we will keep the "pork chop" dinners on hold until your rash clears up. now I am scratching.
whats it look like i have never found it so nor have i avoided it.
There are two types of ivy that grow wild in Florida that look very similar. One is poison ivy and the other is not. One has 5 leaves and the other has 3 leaves. The old timers used to say "if it be 3, leave it be". I carry that in my head every time I go into the woods. I've been very sucessful most of my life avoiding it. I do get them dang red bugs on occassion though. I need to learn to stay clear of the palmetto bushes! Here are some photos to help ID the poison ivy.
The ivy with 5 leaves is not poisonous, the one with 3 leaves is. :eek
well the 3 leaf one i pulled some down this week end before i climed the tree.
Well, I got it again. I guess once you get it once, you just lose your immunity to it. Not as bad this time though. On my left arm. I know exactly where I got it too. We moved my tripod stand to a new spot, and I shoved it up into a cluster of cedar trees for cover. I got up there to do some minor trimming and there were some vines growing in one of the trees. Thought they were all grape vines, but I remember now seeing one that was more than likely poison ivy. Woke me up itching in middle of the night
Funny i had a dream i was climbing a tree full of poison ivy last night.. Weird.. Lol
