If we didnt give off carbon dioxide then there wouldnt be any plants alive and the earth would be like a tundra. Plants have to take in CO2 from the air so they can do cell respiration and eventually give off oxygen in the process
plants grow through a procedure called "photosynthesis" Its the use of the sun to make food. Then they give off oxygen for us to breath.
Photosynthesis is the broad term that covers all of the chemical reactions that go on.
First plants go through whats called the "light dependent reactions"- sunlight is gathered in the choloplasts in the plant cells and in turn converts into ATP (chemical energy) along with a few other biproducts like NADPH and NAP+
Second the plant goes through the "Calvin Cycle"-this is when the carbon dioxide is converted to oxygen, and sugar. (yes sugar, it repairs the cell walls).
