Keep the sword and get the Mossy. My dad's gotta civil war sword carried by General Robert White that will be mine someday. I'd hate it if he ever sold it or gave it up in a trade.

Not sure which side or anything. I would assume north of the Mason Dixon, but I don't really know. It has his name engraved on the sword blade along with every battle he fought in. I haven't done any research, just what info I got from my grand dad before he passed on and left the sword to my old man.

I did a quick internet search, and I did find some info. Seems this guy was a Colonel and not a General, and for the south, not the north. Here's an extract from the site:
"Confederate Military History, Vol. 2
West Virginia--CHAPTER VIII.
MISCELLANEOUS DATA--NOTES ON THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF VARIOUS COUNTIES TO THE CONFEDERATE SERVICE--RECORDS OF THE TWENTY-FiFTH AND THIRTY-FIRST REGIMENTS.
IN Hampshire county, before the commencement of the war, there were two organized and uniformed companies of infantry; one known as the Frontier Riflemen, of which Robert White, afterward colonel of the Twenty-third Virginia cavalry, was captain,..."

Ima try to get my hands on the sword and take some pics and look it over a little closer next time I'm at my old man's.

I think ur confused on who's lookin to trade the sword. trouttouter originally posted. I just commented that he should hang on to it, as I know how valuable they are. And, yes, the sword and scabard are in great condition, and yes, he's somewhere down in the branches of my family tree, but I don't know where. Funny thing is, Abe Lincoln actually in there, and not that far removed. Mary Gray, was my great grandmother's grandmother. My great grand-dad spent 10 years tracing the family tree all the way back to Europe. I wish I could get my hands on the paperwork he put together.
