I just so happen to have a very rare civil war cavalry sabre (M1860 by Providence Tool Company) valued at $1,200 to $1,500. It is displayed in my office closet, where it collects dust. Meanwhile I had to borrow my dad's shotgun to hunt during small game season. Do you guys think I should trade/sell the sabre for a higher end shotgun/rifle? There is no way possible the sabre is going to decrease in value.
i guess it depends on how bad you want another gun. you are holding on to a piece of history. would be a tough call.
mossberg 500 can be picked up pretty inexpensive. keep the sword and pickup a mossy from Wally world.

I actually don't personally own a shotgun/rifle at all.
I'm thinking about the Mossberg route. Just need to start a shotgun fund I suppose.
Is that collectors buy value ie: what a collector will pay you for an item or retail?
