This just might be a doable item for my small backyard. Composting beneath them is an interesting idea too. I just got some rabbit at Publix (paid TOO MUCH) and am roasting it with some chicken for dinner. Rabbits seem more logical for a small area. This wont go over with my wife too well. Dont know yet. We live in suburbia. I think it would be a good learning experience for the kids.

Mr Lolo btw.. great info and thanks. I did think about using a pellet gun with a shot to the head for a dispatch too. I also saw that putting a piece of metal between cages is recommended too. I see you talk about a 1 foot space. I saw that hanging wire cages works pretty well too. I will have to look into this more... Hmm....

x2 on the hanging cages, the foot between and use that space as a hay manger, always take the females to the males cage for breeding, and I always broke their necks ( don't remember screaming). I just broke the neck , cut it for bleeding out and hung them from the cloths line for skinning. There used to be an old time breed called a florida spotted, I think it was a lot like an English spot. New Zealands should do OK in the heat.

They are screamers I had a 16" Burmese python and I breed rabbits to feed her... First one to scream was the last it was pretty crazy I would kill them myself after that than feed them to her.
