in the country it can be nice for skiing, dragging game and blood trailing, but in the city it's just a major PIA. wish I could go back and do some grouse hunting on cross country skis again or watch the dogs till furrows in the snow with their noses, trying to scent grouse. glory days I'll never forget. too old and fat for it now.
I just got off the phone with friend in South Dakota.
He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping below zero and the north wind is increasing. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.
no snow for me ever again I hope
I really miss it. Hunting takes on a whole new perspective in the snow. Hunting Ruffed Grouse, Wood Cock, Cotton Tail Rabbits, and Grey Squirrels all at the same time is very cool. Nothing better than flushing a grouse and getting covered with snow as you try and get a shot. Chasing rabbit that come flying out of a clump of grass or brush pile and getting a shot as the snow flies. Hunting deer with 2-8" of snow on the ground is a blast also. You can see down through the woods three times as far if you don't have snow. I will keep making my trips to NYS to hunt and we always pray for a good snowy hunt!!! I don't miss the shoveling, plowingm, and extreme cold though....
frankwt now that's just funny. 😆
