ok several times I have gone for mullet and got none. Then some one walks up goes to another spot and gets a net full. Is there some sign I should look for? I know there vegitarians so baitfish should not matter, right?

They will run in schools pretty heavy in the fall and spring. Good polarized shades help. I guess the key is to throw the net where they are gonna be when the net gets there.

I have stood on the bow of a boat with a cast net loaded and had someone chase the school down with the motor.

In the fall they will get in creeks and marina entrances and sorta sit there, so cast netting them is like pickin peas at times.

You can also chum them up with laying mash, bread, or purina fish food

polarized glasses and look for jumping fish. Not hard to spot if you know what to look for. Also look for dark spots they usually swim in large schools.

thanks I know to watch for jumping. this last time I saw about 3 jumps about 100 feet off shore. I get nothing in my spot but a guy wades out about 10feet just north of me and his net is full. I am all about luck but it just seems like he could see them.

If it isn't too rough, you can see the wakes they push as they swim along. With decent sized mullet, if you see a wake, the fish making it are a few feet ahead of it, depending on how deep the water is and how fast they're moving. I think it's an experience thing knowing how far ahead to cast, and when.
