ok so im 19 and i want a handgun. from what i read a person under 21 can own a hand if it is given to them as a gift or private sale. now before my dad buys it for me i wanna know with out a doubt that i can have it. let me here your guys opinion and facts on this. im planning on talking to a cop soon but you guys are the first stop
I'd look for something in writing from the state as cops will probably give you varying answers/opinions, they are not lawyers or law makers. no disrespect to the men in blue.

It is unlawful to sell, give, barter, lend or transfer a firearm or other
weapon other than an ordinary pocketknife to a minor less than the age of
18 without his parent’s permission, or to any person of unsound mind.
It is unlawful for any dealer to sell or transfer any firearm, pistol,
Springfield rifle or other repeating rifle to a minor.
A minor less than 18 years of age may not possess a firearm, other than
an unloaded firearm at his home, unless engaged in lawful activities.
(2)(a) A person may not knowingly or willfully sell or transfer a firearm to a minor under 18 years of age, except that a person may transfer ownership of a firearm to a minor with permission of the parent or guardian. A person who violates this paragraph commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
(b) The parent or guardian must maintain possession of the firearm except pursuant to s. 790.22.
your good to go.you can buy a handgun from a person but not from a store.Only pronlem you will have is ammo. You cannot buy pistol ammo until your 21,but totaly legal to own and buy a handgun from a private sale. What you looking at getting?
yea i heard about the ammo problem but i want a colt 1911 =)
if ur dads gonna getcha a 1911, then he should teach you to reload them as well. Bullets aint cheap no more, and the 1911, eats some expensive food. 😀
The only thing you cannot do with the pistol until ur 21 is carry concealed. IT is legal to carry it loaded and encased inside your vehicle. Encased can be a simple as in the glove box, or heck a shoebox with a lid qualifies as encased. And your boss/work CANNOT prevent you having a firearm in your vehicle while parked in their parking lot.
