I had my tonsils out at 33 & it ain't a picnic. Worrying won't help, it will be what it will be. There will be plenty of time to worry later. What helped me most was ice packs on the outside & holding crushed ice on the inside, then spitting it out, when you are able to open your mouth enough to let anything in. My advice would be to stay in the hospital as long as possible so you can get pain meds via a needle & be hydrated by an IV bag. They sent me home the same day with pain meds I could not swallow & it took several days for me to be able to swallow water. I wouldn't count on being able to tolerate ice cream for a while,& besides it tends to create mucous & it will hurt to cough for a while. DO USE the incentive spirometer as directed as the anesthesia gas is nasty stuff & getting rid of thick sputum, while not fun, will help you breath easier. When you are able to open your mouth enough to have a look see, DON'T WORRY, you aren't growing a new penis in your throat! That will be your swollen Uvula. When they send you home get your meds as suppositories or liquids that you will be able to use. Make sure your wife steals some gloves so she can help deliver the suppositories, unless she prefers to go bareback, & make sure she unwraps them before use. She can also help by cupping/clapping on your back to loosen & bring up phlegm. Surgery will likely be over by the time you read this. Feel free to contact me if you have questions, & I'll check in here on fohaf more often. GET WELL SOON.

Drink plenty of broth. 9 out of 10 surgeons recommend hog ball broth, lol. Lucky it's your favorite. You can ask members to save you the nuggets.
