Man I know you love your dog and all buy life is to short for me to deal with something like that. Keeping a biting dog is like a time bomb waiting to go off. Especially if there's small children in the house. All of our dogs live in kennels and if they're in the house they sleep in crates at nite.Crates don't make dogs mean, some dogs are just unbalanced.
my dog dont bite us.. she never bit my son since was born, and how is 7 years old.. my daughter is 1 and the dog takes a beating from them and will never get agressive with them.
Many times marking is done because of stress or insecurity and these feelings can carry over from past care.If it happens when you are away it may also be separation anxiety so you have several things to look into for reasons and there are a few ways of breaking the bad habit like take away water for certain times, catch her doing it and let her know, the squirt gun and coins in a can.......!Also crate training is not bad for the dog!!

ive had her about 10 years and never caught her doing it.. weird its like shes a ninja.. you think in 10 years i would catch er right? nope.. never yet.
dogs are den animals, so crating is not cruel, but I think you have to start doing it when they are pups. mine love theirs and it is a place of security for them. the female likes being in close confined spaces shes got several spots around the house she hides in : behind the bed, couch, corners of closets and will get up on the bed and bury herself under the pillows with only her nose and eyes sticking out. the male likes laying ont the top backrest of the couch, so he can look one way and see the street and the other way and watch the back yard for squirels. on a good day if I tell them to kennel up they will go and sit in their crate. I usualy leave the door open.
