Check around at different gun shops. That $40 to handle the transaction seems high, and since you have a CWP, it may not cost as much.

Go to http://www.gunbroker.com/FFL/DealerNetwork.aspx put in your zip and get a list of FFL holders who handle transfers, and most of them list their fees.

Here's another FFL finder from Shotgun News: http://listings.shotgunnews.com/fflguide/

There's guys doing them for $15-20 up your way.

I know they're alot more money but try my kahr pm 9mm in plastic. ( ASSUMING i OWNED ONE ) before you go for a 380. about the same size/wt and alot more stopping power.

I wouldn't put kahr in the same class as kimber, and not trying to showoff. when I was your age I bought everything in sight and eventualy learned the hard way it's cheaper in the long run to buy the very best you can one time, instead of 2 or 3 that are OK that you eventualy end trading up for anyway. plus imo 9mm is the bottom rung of reliable stopping power.

If you feel comfortable with the gun, are proficient with it, caliber is less of a factor. Sorry, but that is my belief. I see a lot of people carry guns that are nice and pretty and shiny, but I will guarantee you 90% of people that carry are not proficient with their carry gun. A .40 or .45 does not mean :crap: if you can't hit the BG in times of need.
Having said that...I carry a little .380 that I am very proficient with. I have shot many many many rounds through it, and can put a whole mag full in center mass at 10 yards in a couple seconds. No safety on it, just point it and pull the trigger. I had a Kel-Tec 9mm that I couldn't hit :crap: with and got rid of that thing like a hot tater. Most self defense shootings happen at something like 12 feet(I think). At that distance and further I am confident in me and my gun, and trust it with my life. I know I will get debated on this, but that is just my view
