Seriously i don't understand why, if a person falls behind on child support the state takes away their DL License.
Makes no sense. Ok a person who is paying just cant afford to pay one month and misses, they take away your DL License.
Someone tell me how that makes sense? How is that person going to work to make the money to catch up? How is that person going to be able to even get to court, or make money to pay a mortgage??
Now the reality of this is they make you pay so much that you seriously cant afford it.
Now i understand garnishing his wages, taking tax returns, and not being able to leave the country. Thats understood.
Just pisses me off.
And trust me speaking for myself, my payments more then my mortgage.
At any rate.
A friend of mine was working for a builder as a foreman. Made good money. His child support was taken directly out of his paycheck.
He found a better paying job so he switched jobs.
Not sure of how but somehow the state didn't get the new company info and he went behind 1 month. They suspended his DL.
He went down and explained and they said "its an automated service, the computer sees you missed and it alerts DMV and you get a letter and automatic suspension". He was told to pay the fines, come to court and deal with it.
He said "how i ain't got no Licence and ya took all my money, i cant go to work tomorrow to make money.
DMV pretty said thats your problem.
Now theres probably more to the story that he left out but. They need to STOP THE DAM suspension of DL if you cant pay or fall behind.
Well he could not go to work, prob got fired, just bought a new house he couldn't pay for now since he couldn't drive to work to make money to pay for it.
Sucks makes you feel hopeless. Your only option is to borrow a ton of money to get squared away with the state or just go to jail.

He hung himself in his house last week.

I personally know what its like to be about to miss a payment and realize that if i don't make money appear ill be in the same situation. Almost happened to me 2 months ago. If it wasn't for my wife.... Well lets say I'm here... Ill leave it at that.
Just upset cause i know the personal stress it puts on you.

You are absolutely right about the drivers license issue! A restricted license, for work only, would seem to make it easier for individuals to get caught up financially.
Very sad and tragic that your friend felt he had to take his own life to escape these difficulties.

sorry to hear this crock. man loses life children lose father. sad. my condolences.
Hate to hear that, the system is stacked against the father in most of these situations.
