also as him being new to it he needs alot of training, practice and range time like stated above. JMO as a new CW carrier he should start with a revolver. I have carried for many years and do carry a semi sometimes 'Sig P-226' but imo you cant beat a good revolver. no parts to manipulate, did i chamber a round? possible jamb all sorts of things. My fav. is a ruger sp-101. I think my permit is coming up for renewal, any body know what the fee is now?
talk to some leos, the longer on the job the better and see how many of them DO NOT own or use a 38 snub nose revolver. never too big to leave home, 100% reliable. (if you get a bad primer in a semi, you're screwed) yes you can clear a dud or jam pretty quick with practice, but need 2 hands and it's still much slower than squeezing the trigger again. sooner or later just about everyone owns one. +1 on the sp101 if you want 357 ability but reccomend the 3" version.
Personally a good .38 Caliber Snubbie Revolver would be my first choice of a concealed carry gun, if I only could have one concealed carry gun. Easy to conceal, easy to shoot, easy to maintain, no safety to worry about, easy to correct malfunction of ammo (just pull the trigger again). I carry an older 1968 S&W Model 60 Stainless in .38 Cal which is near new (a 44 year old gun) and at 155 lbs and 5'6" I can conceal it wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops when it's 100 degrees out. I wouldn't recommend an airweight revolver as they tend to have a bit more recoil than an all steel revolver and the weight difference when carrying is unnoticable anyway. I've had or shot all of the airweights out there and most of the other snubbies Smith and Colt made or currently make and the Model 60 is the primo of the .38 Cal Revolver IMHO.
I know someone who just picked up a nice S&W Model 640 (Internal Hammer/Hammerless) in Stainless that I am on the prowl for now, maybe a trade????? You know who you are :cool2. Although the Sig Sauer P-239 in 9MM or 40 Cal is a close second to the Model 60. Just my thoughts...
you can have the 9mm, but forget the chiefs special or the 40. you got a bad case of Nacho envy, lol.
