HEy all,
I have been wanting an AR platform for years now, really wanting it in .308 cal but had a limited budget, couldnt go over 1000 and well u cant touch a .308 cal M4 for under.
So when I saw a posting for a M4 in 6.8 cal I did some quick research and made a few phone calls and the next morning for 800 cash it was mine.
I bought out the only 2 boxes of 6.8 the range had and immediatly went OH, hmmm, new round, maybe hard to get ammo. Sure enough, wally world dont carry it, and neither does the DICKS sporting goods near me. IT is sold at cheaper than dirt and midway usa, and even have the stuff to reload it. (I will be making those purchases soon enough, as I already have the press and stuff to go with it.)
SO my question/comment has anyone else seen this at your local sporting good store? anything cheaper than 30.00 for 20 rounds??
Thanks
FYI it shoots nicely and groups nicely using iron sights.
I have been researching this 6.8 ammo thing for a while now. If you can reload I would, the hunting rounds are expensive everywhere, although I have been finding a box of 20 in the $25 to $27 range. I have been reading over at the 6.8forum and a couple of years back everyone was using the 110gr Sierra Pro Hunter now it appears they are all moving to the Hornady 130 gr SST for hunting. I just got finished putting one together myself. Stag Arms 6.8 Upper on a Spikes lower.
Very nice! You gotta hate how much ammo costs though.....

Yeah, I hear ya, I kept my .223 upper for plinking and practice, once I get that Leupold sighted in, the 6.8 is only going to come out when its time to put some meat in the cooler
i am interested in building an ar in 308. that is a nice gun!
