ruger m77 .270 enough said..30-06 in my opinion is inaccurate

:eek

While I don't own one, I can assure you that a .30-06 is VERY accurate in the hands of a skilled marksman! Go one step further and start handloading and take accuracy to a whole new level. I just don't see how you can make such an egregiously misinformed statement!

I personally prefer the 270 but would have absolutely no problem carrying a 30-06. I've borrowed one, once, and killed a 6pt with it around 150 yards.

As Nacho said, just about anything out of the '06 case is a stellar round. I've got a 270 and a 25-06, both based off that case. Both are at or less than .5 MOA shooters - when you can do your part :chain

My experience isn't so much the caliber as it is the gun itself. "I" have shot nearly every caliber from .22LR to .450 Marlin in nearly every action type available and depending how the gun performed, how the gun "FIT ME" (ie. length of pull, Comb height, gun weight, how it feels in your hand, etc.) how the trigger pull was, how well "I" could shoot it, and the recoil of the gun that made my decision with any gun or caliber. "I" have owned and shot so many rifles in the last 28 years of gun ownership that most people think I'm crazy. "I" have about ten rifles from .22 LR to .375 Win (some in the same caliber) that "I" and able to shoot exceptionally well. Has nothing to do with the caliber, more to do with the gun itself and "MY" ability to shoot it. You can load .30-06 light or heavy, you can also load a .270 light or heavy... Same goes for most all calibers larger than a .243 that you can load as light as 80 grains to whatever grain bullet of that caliber can handle. That said, "YOU" can get the performance out of whatever caliber "YOU" choose, if "YOU" choose a gun "YOU" can shoot well. Go shoot some guns at the range with your friends, family, buds and find what works for "YOU" gun wise, find what feels good and comfortable for "YOU" to shoot, that "YOU" shoot well before you worry about what caliber... A Remmy 700 in 7MM Mag shoots a whole lot differently than a Remmy 700 in .243.... Same goes for the Ruger 77, Winchester 700, Sako, Tikka, Weatherby, etc... We can give you all the advise in the world for what works for us, but if "YOU" can't shoot it, it won't work for "YOU". My two cents...
