October of last year I went hunting with a friend in Texas who had been getting elk on his trail camera and called me up to hurry out there befor they moved off to another ranch. These were free ranging animals in northern Texas near Texarkana, so nothing was holding them other than alfalfa he fed his cattle. Quickly we hot footed it over and on day one this guy fell and then we discovered they were not truely elk but an Elk crossed with Red Deer also called a Silk down there. Couldn't beat a free hunt and this beautiful 5X5 was roughly 750# on the hoof that made some great table fare.
Very nice! No tag or special permit needed in TX for this? Just a TX license?
Texas requires only a basic liscense for hogs, javelina and exotics regardless of free ranging or high fenced, only need tags for deer, mule deer, antelope and turkey. A regular liscense is only 45$ out of state for 5 days and to me that is a bargain!
Very nice and easy, I am a Texan and should have gotten a lifetime years ago but now I am old and am going to get as many as I can(different states) when I hit their age for cheapo licenses... Pduck, do you film these hunts or just hunt free with friends all over..what gives?
I do both actually, film with 2 shows and hunt more off film for fun. During the season we bowhunt 95% of the time and hit Illinois and Kentucky for gun season. Tink's is my main sponsor and Tink Nathan and myself do most of the hunting together, we generally take wounded warriors hunting with us as well. We are the directors of Operation Bows and Heroes, our belief is to help Veterans and Active Duty folks wounded heal through archery.
