How difficult is to get one of the 60 daily quotas? Lots of hunters, or easy to get in? Never been there but will like to try the area this year.
I know some guys that hunt it,I think they usually get inside the gates. Gotta get in line early though.
I hunted it one year. I live about 35-40 minutes away and I left my house at around 3:30 the first weekend it was open for small game. When I pulled up, I was approximately truck number 25 or so. Oh, and that was on a Friday.
The best thing to do is camp the day before and get in line super early. Take a nap in the truck while in line.
Or you could sit at the check station and wait until someone leaves. They have to turn their permit in if they leave the WMA.
What are you going to be targeting? Squirrels, hogs?
A friend of mine works nights, therefore has to sleep in late. He goes up there every year MID-DAY and never has had a problem getting a permit
Yeah, he's probably catching the permits from the guys who come out at lunch time, or who have already harvested an animal and checked out.
