Anyone using a reduced 270 load for kids? Just curious if anyone had a good one they wanted to share. Wanting to reduce the recoil to get my wife shooting the 270 out to around 100 to 150 yds for deer. Looking for a powder and a good bullet that will perform at the slower speeds and still have knock down power!!!

Get a Simms Vibration slip on recoil pad. They sell them at Wal Mart for $20. They are made by Simms, but I believe sold under Winchester.
These will reduce the heck out of recoil without having to change ammo

I need a little info to better answer that question, #1 do you re-load?, #2 is she target shooting only or are they for hunting?, #3 what type rifle and bbl length is she using. to reduce recoil you can use a sissy pad or add a different recoil pad. a "reduced load" is generally achieved by using less powder but lowers velocity and effects trajectory. I would recommend switching to a much lighter bullet (if target only) that will lower felt recoil without affecting velocity. a quick check of my sierra reloading manual (3rd edition) shows you can load a 90 gr bullet (in a 26" test bbl) to 3400 fps without going to a max load. recommended hunting load 57.2 grains of Winchester 760 powder, with a Winchester large rifle primer and the sierra 90 gr hollow point bullet. recommended accuracy load is same bullet/primer and 59.2 grains imr 4350 powder. these are NOT max loads. expect (APP) 50 fps less for each inch less of bbl length on her gun (this will vary). you can also lower the powder if you want, the lowest #'s listed for that bullet are 52.3 gr win 760 at 3100 fps and 54.1 gr imr 4350 at 3100 fps. will she be able to feel a difference between 52.3 gr win 760 and 57.2 gr win 760 ?, I couldn't say. I use win 760 powder a lot as it is a small round (ball) powder and flows well thru my powder measure and burns clean in my gun and gives good velocity for me. you will find MANY different recipes out there depending where you look. If you DON'T reload, just look for the lightest bullet wt avail off the shelf and they may even have a reduced load avail, but for a reduced load store-bought you'd probably be better off shopping on line (greater selection). sorry for the lengthy post. good luck to her.
