Since the opening of deer season is tied to the rut dates by the FWC, do the bucks in the southern part of the state shed their antlers earlier than the other parts of Florida? Just thinking about this and figgured some of y'all could "shed" some light on this subject. Treefarmer
Yes they do. In So Fla they shed very early. I know some of the guys in leases down there say they are shed and back in velvet before the season is over
I hunt Lafayette co, and ours shed around Feb. However it is not uncommon to shoot a buck any time after new~year and the antlers pop off in your hand when you grab them. seen it many many times
In the days before spring turkey season a saw a total of 4 bucks that still haven't shed their horns yet, then I saw a buck the first week of spring turkey season that still had horns. I contacted FWC about this and they said "They should be falling any day"
