I have a little spot that I am looking to set up a tripod feeder. I don't have a lot of experience with feeders and would like some input on what everyone's experiences have been and what to avoid and what is a good quality piece of equipment.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable tripod feeder. I would like to keep it in the $100 range if possible.

Thanks, in advance for the feedback.

Stay away from the Wild game feeders. My bud has 2 of them and they are POS's. He's replaced both motors and if he doesn't keep a solar panel on them, the battery is dead in 2 weeks. My moultrie feeders are on the same batteries since I put them up this summer

I read to stay away from the WGI Feeders as well but for 88 bucks I had to try one of the Monsta D digital feeders and i haven't had any issues with it (knock on wood). I use a rechargeable 6v in it with no solar panel and It has lasted a few months so far with it going off 3 times a day for 3-7 seconds each time..

I agree you're probably better off going with a better brand if you want to have it around for a while.
I did put self tapping screws in each leg section to keep them from coming apart and wrapped tape around the part that goes into the feeder hopper itself so they are tighter and don't wobble..

It's paid for itself so far in corn and time i've saved by setting it to go off after dark so the Crows and Turkeys aren't eatting it. So even if it self destructs tomorrow i'm not out anything

holiver,

I'm partial to On Time Feeders. Google the name and you will see what they have to offer. I have 3 of the Classic Life Time motors, 2 on the feeders in the woods and 1 for a spare. These things have a life time guarantee and in our neck of the woods a man at one of the hardware stores will repair them for a 5 dollar fee. New motor, clock or spinner, what ever it takes. The housing is made of aluminum and has rubber gaskets to keep out dirt and moisture. They come with a mounting bracket which I attached to the bottom of a pickle barrel, that hangs from a tripod with a cable on a boat winch so that the barrel can be refilled without a ladder . My tripods are made of 10" sticks of 1 1/4 "EMT, (no bear problems around here), so the feeder motor is only about 4' off the ground. They take 11 AA batteries, 10 for the motor and 1 for the clock and last for months and months. The real beauty of this type of feeder is in the savings on the amount of corn you use. With a gravity feeder or pouring it out on the ground, there is no control, that was ok when corn was $3 a bag. Feeder goes off at 7am and 4pm Central time, no control of what will come to it but at least the coons, squirrels and hogs wont be eating till it's all gone. 50 lbs. will last for weeks when metered out properly.

I have a WGI that has outlasted all ours since August....it has survived slight bear attacks. We have a WGI cam that is a piece of junk. So I guess that proves consistant quality control is lacking. My moultrie has been flawless. That "chipper Jones" model. For tripod we have 10 ft EMT with a hole drilled thru all 3 with an eye bolt to hang the feeder.
