I dont see how having a crew of people scouting out your deer spots and finding out when and where to hunt for you makes you the best deer hunter. Do they let them register those huge bucks from the high fence hunts where the bucks have been genetically altered to grow the monster racks?
I am from the P.P. area you need some snook spots let me know.
i got snook spots but there are in saint pete.. if you know any in the pp area let me know. thanks.
OK GUYS BACK TO TOPIC!!!
there is no such thing as the BEST DEER HUNTER
take any guy that is an awesome hunter who takes beautiful Iowa or Ohio monsters every year, be them a "PRO' or average joe on public or private land, who is agreed upon by others in that area as the "best" . Take the guy that is his counterpart and harvests phenomonal ( which definiton varies from person to person) deer every year in the swamps and pine flatwoods of Florida.
Switch them around, the Ohio guy in Florida, and vice versa, and see if anyone would think either of them were the "best' now.
i read an article where Lee and Tifanny Lakosky went to Jackie Bushmans ranch in Montana, and were pretty much lost on how to find and kill that "trophy" Of course Bushman put him on one, but he pretty much said he wouldnt even know where to start, such a different animal to hunt
I know this is a old topic but just wanted to make a comment. I have to agree with this post and with with Skunk Ape. I have hunted all over the country and in each location it has taken me about 3 years to get a really good handle on the deer behavior for that area.
Having hunted in different areas, I have seen a lot of different technics used for deer hunting and based on were you grow up and how you are tought to hunt it is easy to develope predjudices against different hunting methods. Let me say right now that I do not care how a person hunts as long as it is legal in their state. It is all about enjoying the outdoors, hopefully putting a little meat on the table for our families and hanging on to some of our heratage. Where I grew up as a child they shot any dog that chased deer and I never saw a deer stand when I was young. My point is in meny areas of the country using dogs might not be concidered hunting or putting out 30 pounds of corn next to a stand. Out west meny people drive around in a pickup stoping to glass a area then rest their gun on the pickup to make a steady shot 500 yards away. These methods can put lots of meat on the table but to some people it would not be concidered hunting, just shooting. It's all what you have been taught to believe when you are young. It's all good, enjoy what you can, life is to short.
Sitka Blacktails along the Pacific Coast and in the Coastal areas of Alaska are just about the same size as our florida deer. I find the hunting to be hardest in florida because there seems to be more thick ground cover, food everywhere and plenty of personnal discomfort. I think every buck is something to be proud of. Hope you all have good luck this year.
I'm not being judgemental, but I think the bottom line is we are not gonna have mature bucks if we keep killing young ones. I think Kemster and houseofmicah understand and I agre fill your freezer with does first, get that out of the way then start to serously hunt your trophy. some states you have to kill a doe before you are allowed to hunt bucks, and other states have antler size limits, and I think both would be a good idea, maybe be allowed to kill culls and very old bucks and wounded whether they have 16" racks or not, but first off lets get the buck to doe ratio in order. I'll admit I've taken my share of spikes and small basket bucks when I was younger, but now I'am happier with a good sized doe than a skinny 1-2 yr old buck. lets give the bucks a chance to grow to that trophy size we all want .
