Some info from the latest issue of Georgia Outdoor News about coyote predation of deer fawns.
In a recent study, of 60 radio-collared fawns, 73 percent died with coyotes being the mostly likely culprit in 80 percent of the deaths. Bobcats were responsible for 10 percent of the deaths.
There is now overwhelming evidence that coyotes can have an impact on deer populations. The study also says that trapping just prior to and during the fawning season is really the most effective means of increasing fawn survival. It goes on to say that opportunistic harvest of coyotes, i.e. shooting every one you see while deer hunting, will typically have little or no effect and in some cases may even worsen the problem by temporarily reducing competition for resources, which can increase coyote pup survival.
I guess I need to find out how to trap these things...
Put a bounty on them.
I don't think they relocate coyotes. All I know is there are no deer shortages anywhere I hunt and there's a lot of coyotes.
so what is this study suggesting? Do we shoot em or do we trap them and relocate them? Whats the difference?
What the study is saying is to trap them during the fawning season and put em down......for the count....relocate to a dumpster.......
Where do you hunt skunkape?
