Happens to the best of us. Think the only time I pray much anymore is when I'm in a stand.

JBUG308, you need to give us the details on how that fine deer came to lay down there with that fine Browning layin' on his hide! :dtect Treefarmer

Alright - I have a spot in the Hopkins Prairie section of the forest that I've been hunting off and on for 16 years. Took my 1st and 2nd deer there starting in 97. Its an out of the way spot that I've consistently seen deer with the exception of a couple of years when the coyotes and bears seemed to get thick. Anyways.......I decided to sit the tree on the first Monday of gun season. Headed up that morning I noticed the sun was coming up faster than usual - in other words I was running late. Got to the spot - walked to my tree without any kind of flash/head light, climbed the tree and just figured I would have a nice quiet morning in the woods to meditate and have a some serious devotion time. I should say that on the way up I only saw 1 other truck and it was about a 1/2 mile south of me. After giving thanks for such a wonderful morning and all that He has given me I ended it with asking to be blessed however He deemed appropriate.
30-45 minutes later I caught movement and I could see it was a deer. When it lifted its head I could see it was a legal buck. He made his way along a trail to about 40 yards from me and stopped in an opening. I settled the crosshairs on him and dropped the hammer. Boom! The buck jumped straight up in the air and before he hit the ground I was thinking "got him", but then he just stood there looking around. So I jacked another one in and shot again. This time he flinched and walked about ten feet and stopped. By now I'm freaked out. I put the crosshairs on "brown" and pulled the trigger. This time he went down but wasn't out. I got down the tree as quick as I could and eased over to where he was - when I got about 10 ft from him he jumped up and ran. So there I stand listening to this wounded deer bust the brush running away - by the sound of it he was having a really hard time so I put my mind in Husain Bolt mode and took off after him. Once I caught up to him I was able to put one thru his neck and end the madness.
I firmly believe that this was meant to be for me that morning. Some may not buy into it, but that's okay. I went up to the woods later in the week and shot the rifle again and it was dead on from the previous range time - I guess it was just me PULLING the trigger instead of squeezing. The rifle was sighted in at 100yds the Friday before. I would like to avoid this in the future - do any of you guys/gals think the bullet was shooting over or under the deer from 15ft up?

Gun is a .243 with Nikon scope.

Hopkins praire is a good place. hunted it many times, also camped in the camping area there during hunting season
