Rattling can and does work down here, but only if the conditions are right. My opinion is people use these rattle bags that sound nothing like deer sparring whatsoever, or use a set of 130" antlers and smash them together and run every deer off for a mile.I have rattled in a few, but the terrain is thick here, so yo don;t see many that actually come in. The ones I have seen will usually pop into sight briefly downwind and then vanish. I have a little basket 8 point rack that I modified (cut the brow tines off and sawed the ends off to fit in my bag). I will only use them pre rut when I think the bucks are on their feet, and as a last resort. I just hit them together very lightly a few times, and blow a grunt tube. If you can hit brush with them a couple times, even better. I have better luck with a grunt tube and a can call, once again used sparingly. Not blowing it like a trumpet and turning the can call over every three seconds.
