Last weekend of bow season. I was sleeping in my stand as I tend to do after a late night of Bush beer with my Pop. A squirrel was eating a pine cone above me and dropping stuff all over me. I woke from my slumber to see this guy cruising right by me at 30 feet. I could not get situated in time to get a shot off. As he was disappearing into the woods I tried to get him to turn around with a grunt but to no luck; this was 8am. I was so disappointed in myself! Around 9:30 he came blazing down the same trail at a full walk, but this time I say him coming and was ready. As he stopped for a second to wind the air I slipped one in behind the shoulder.
I climbed down and went back to the house to to drop off my bow, before I trekked after him. My Pop was in the kitchen and said that you will not believe this; I was sitting on the front porch this morning and saw a buck walk right across the front yard, check out this picture. I told him put your boots on and help me drag him back.
My Pop is not a hunter. This was his first experience seeing a deer dressing. The yuppie thinks I am crazy.
Congrats on your first :toast . A piece of advice never leave your choice weapon behind when trailing for an animal .
Great work! Good to hear you are teaching those yuppie were food comes from.
Good job, Big L! Let me echo and say "amen" to down4dacount's advice about keeping your weapon at the ready while following a blood trail! You never know what you'll find at the end of the track.
