For a season that I didn't even think I would be able to hunt, its turning out to be ok finally. Got to camp Friday midday, and the weather felt like July. Pure muggy-nastiness. Went and checked my 2 cameras, and had very few pics over the week. No bucks at all and only a few does. Friday afternoon was miserable.Literally pouring sweat out of the stand. I actually got out of the stand, went to the truck and rode around till dark in the a/c

Saturday I hunted 10 hours in a ground blind I put up a while back in a spot, and haven't hunted it at all this season. Beat down with deer tracks, but they were no shows.

I guess the front finally cleared out, because this morning was like someone flipped a light switch. My intentions were to only hunt a very short hunt, pack up and get home, as I really needed to get to the house. I literally had deer all over me from the minute I got in the stand. Had a couple different does cruise by me, eat a little at the feeder, and go on...

8:00, a doe comes busting out of the thicket in front of me, and hit the brakes at 4 yards. She startled me and I think we scared each other. She does a couple foot stomps, wheels around and back into the thicket. I could see her running back and then I knew she had to be getting harassed by a buck, based on the way she was acting. I finally saw the second deer, but just couldn't see it clearly, knew it had to be the buck. I saw them both take off thru the thicket heading away from me. Figured I better do something now before they were gone

One good 3-5 second grunt on the old Flextone, and he broke away from her and walked out in the little logging road I am sitting on. When he walked out, he had his ears pinned back, let out a deep nasty grunt(I've only heard that deep grunt 2x in my hunting career. Other time was my big 10pt), made a left and walked right at me. I put the crosshairs on him but I hate a brisket shot, and will avoid it at all cost. The wind could have not been any worse, literally blowing right at him. I decided it ended right then. I made a little Bheeh noise, he picked his head up, I put the crosshairs on his throat, and squeezed...

When the smoke cleared, here is what I saw from the ladder stand

Definitely not my biggest buck, but he was a mature deer. Didn't weigh him, but me and a buddy estimated him at 130-140ish. A good 7 point, chocolate rack with a lot of character from him rubbing the crap out of them

A 400 yard free ride on the game cart(Thanks to my buddy Scott helping me get him on the tailgate)
