Well I thought my season couldn't get better than it has been . I was wrong , Sat morning only saw 2 does and a button buck . In the afternoon, I was going to take my boy . We left out of the camp in a hurry, we had a long way to go . On the way to the stand we saw several fresh rubs , so I knew a buck was traveling through looking for does , and the rut was just begining . When we got to the double man stand I asked him what happened to his jacket . He said he forgot it , well I knew if we go back it would mess up our hunt . I did what any parent would do , I gave him my jacket . I figured the wind would die down , I was painfully wrong. The first 40 minutes it was ok . About 5ish the wind really started blowing 20-30 mph gust and now I was getting cold . He was nice and warm playing his DS game. We were looking at egrets and other birds pass by. I started to get really cold so he opened up the jacket he put his arm around me and covered me a bit . After a few minutes he asked me if I was warm , Ohhh yeahh , that felt better . At 6pm I decided we would leave around 6:30 , it was getting colder . He was also getting tired , so I kept him occupied by asking him what was his favorite game to hunt . Deer , hog , ducks , turkey , or small game , he said deer . After several quiet conversations , I started to think we probably would not see anything , and I was freezing for nothing . I asked the mighty lord to please just let us see a doe . At 6:30 on the dot I caught movement about 90 yards infront through some myrtles , by the way he was moving through there I knew it was a buck slipping through . As he came out I saw horns , I asked if he sees the deer , he said yes , I told him cover your ears , I put the crosshair on his front shoulder and squeezed . BTW I had a new 7 Mag I bought 2 weeks a go . First time in 16 years I leave my trusty 30-06 . Back to the hunt . The deer jumped and ran about 30 yards and dropped infront of us . He saw how everything went down . He looked at me and he had a huge smile and told me , you got em dad . High fives and a hug , by now I had forgotten about how cold I was . We got down and walked over to where he was laying , man I couldn't believe how this hunt unfolded . A big Thank You Lord !!!!! . This was the best hunt of the year .

Way to go! Just being out there with your boy made it a good hunt, the buck was just gravy!

Great story and great pics! That's a hunt neither of you will ever forget, and the "Thank you Lord!"is what we all need to express for special times like you and your son experienced. Treefarmer
