Headed up to Pa last week for Hunt camp. It was beautiful out there as usual and a cold 24 degrees for the first few mornings. Last year I struck out so this year, I was hopeful. The first 2 days were buck only so of course, doe were everywhere. On the third day, it was antlerless, so I was ready. It all happened in a split few seconds. 2 deer were crossing a ridge in the distance, of course I fumbled the rifle swing. Recovering, I got my crosshairs on the slowest one, BAM. And what did I do???? Uggg... I closed my eyes. Uggg...
i got my binoculars out and thought I saw a puff of white on the ridge. I knew what I had to do... The day before I had sprained my ankle, so I grabbed a stick from behind the blind and off I went. Hobbling along..... I found the deer! First one EVER! It was a 175 yard shot right in the breadbasket!
The rest of the hunt was not that great as it started really warming up and the deer just were not moving. No matter, 1st deer and frankly, just getting out there, made it worthwhile.
