Well after striking out yesterday with a buck I decided to persevere. Got up early and got to another stand I had been seeing a buck in the daytime as well. The morning sit was relatively uneventful and at 11am I decided that I'd stalk in the wet pines to the stand location I missed the buck at last night. I figured I'd sit out the remainder of the day there in hopes he would return. Not to mention that I could do this with the wind in my face and the wind would be perfect for that stand again.
On my way easing through the woods I came upon a few small palmetto heads that something was crunching around. I froze and prepared for a shot. About 5 minutes later this doe decided to work her way almost directly through the palmettos. I was there waiting. I thought that whatever it was would skirt the palmettos and I'd get about a 15 yard shot. She nearly ended up in my lap.
I had to draw back just to stop her from getting too close. I drew, she paused to figure out what I was. She decided that something wasnt right and started to turn away slowly. I released and she didnt make it 20 yards before slamming into a pine tree. DRT.
After the shot I could see the four other does bound away only to stop at about 50 yards to figure out why they were running. I knelt down and knocked another just in case one got curious and wanted to come back to look for the other doe but they slowly retreated instead.
Slick trick standard did a number on her as usual. I believe the term they use is slug hole. I would say thats accurate. I love them and have killed a few with them and have had nothing but great results if you do your part. They are also very strong. Have resharpened a few and they are ready to go again.
Good shot
Good deal. I walked up on a couple hogs today myself while setting a stand but my quota doesn't start till tomorrow.
