Never cease to amaze me...congrats
This going to be a long story . I'll try to not bore you guys, lol . Friday am got there at the perfect time . My wife was my driver , and me and my son were on buck patrol . I went straight to an area where I had seen 2 , 5 points close to the road . Hoping I could spot them and my son could get a shot . Well , these bucks must of got the memo hunting season was here cause they were nowhere to be seen . I finally spotted one and someone was already on him , oh well . Saw a few other basket racks too far for me to put a stalk with him due to crossing some drainage ditches really wet . As the day went on all I saw were border line bucks and not worth my stalk . In the afternoon my buddy Eric showed up we were looking for anything legal . I think we saw every 4 point there . Sat morning our driver stayed sleeping . It was my son , Eric and me . I was 1st on deer lookout , again saw lots of illegal bucks . Then finally saw a nice one put a stalk on him . Got to 40 yards and was about to draw and I said let me make sure he's got 3 on one side . I put the bino's on him and nope , only a wide 4 pt . After that I was the driver / sucker and Eric was on hunt mode . Nothing again except illegal bucks . We decided to take a break and I went back to the motel and picked up our designated driver my wife and daughter . Made our way back to the area's I had scouted and nothing . Now we had 30 minutes of light so it was gonna be over for the day quick . We decided to take a right to an area I knew had several legal bucks but I had not seen them . 300 yards into road I spot a deer along the fence line . I tapped on the roof to signal my wife to stop . I glassed him and saw a rack with 3 points on one side . Game on , I jumped out the truck , took off my boots cause there's a canal on the right I had to cross . I went to the edge and I was greeted with 2 footloads of sand spurs . That didn't feel good . I realized I would make too much noise going across so I got back up on the truck and up on the roof , told my wife to go slow . We would tap on the roof , she would stop turn off the truck . Eric tapped on the roof , stop ,off , I ranged the buck 60 yards hard quarter away. I settled my 60 pin on his rear ham and let it loose . Arrow flew perfect and we heard the thump . Eric shot and missed as the deer buckled . The buck stumbled out of sight to our left . I quickly jump out of the truck and without hesitating I did a head dive into the canal with one hand holding my bow out of all the crap that was on top of the water . I crawled out of all the weeds got up on the bank went down , another drainage ditch . Water up to my chest got out jumped the barb wire fence . I see the buck bedded down at 30 yards . I quickly knocked an arrow and aim right at his neck which is all I could see . As I released he moved , I still hit him . He got up ran and crashed against the fence and busted though . Eric screams out from the truck he's up on the leeve , I'm gonna shoot . He shoots I hear the arrow fly through brush , I missed him . I hear the buck run into some thick brush and I creep in . All I could see is his head going up and down , so I figured let me put him out with a headshot . I pulled back and released , the arrow hit a twig and veered off and hit him on the side of the face , he stands up , I was already with an arrow and shot him through the vitals , the buck came out my way , I dropped the bow and grabbed him by the horns and dropped him . I pulled out my knive and stuck him under his armpit . Holy Crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eric is screaming , if I had him and I'm screamin back , hell yeah . This all happened in a few minutes after the first initial shot . Eric threw me a rope and pulled the buck across . I did a side belly flop into the canal and came out the other side looking like a swampthing . High 5's and hugs then my wife and kids came over and man I was happy . We both felt awesome and the calls and text started going out and my phone was blowing up with text and calls . Few pics and on our way to checked him out . Thank you lord for letting me enjoy another epic day in the woods . Eric asked if Sunday I was going back , I said yeap we are gonna look for yours . I drove him around , and met down the road Brent (deerfoot) . We talked a while and his boy had killed a hog and we put it in my truck to net mess up the inside of his Excursion . While talking he said his son had shot at one and hit him in the rear leg and looked like it cut his tendon .I told him I know where he is . He says where , I say in my cooler . I killed him last night . After a while talking we took off to find Eric a buck . We saw a guy stalking a buck and couldn't get on him so Eric went around the back and tried him . The buck with a doe never gave him a shot . We then proceeded to another trail . We saw a small 6 and Eric tried him butt was over before it started . I took better pics of my buck which I had gutted and stuffed him in a cooler with ice . On the way out of the trail I glassed the same field and the doe was out and I looked to her right in the dog fennel and the buck was there . I told him go get em . He crossed a chest deep drainage canal and made a 900 yard walk to where the buck was spotted . I'm glassing from the truck and I see him pull back and release . What the !!!!! . Immediately he calls he shot it . Did you hit him , Eric says I got blood . A minutes passes and he calls again I got , I'm saying do you see it , he's saying I got it . I'm saying is he dead , he says my bow is on him , he's done JACK . I hauled azz to his truck and got my game cart and man that 12pm sun was kicking some serious heat . Long hike to where he was and all worth it . He's like man thanks for staying to help me find one I know you have your family and they're tired . I said bro I wouldn't do it any other way . I've know this sucker since he was like 8 . I'm glad you got your buck and extremely happy to help you out bro. Back to celebrating baby!!!!!!!!! . Now the long azz cart back . DAMMNNNN !!!!! . Congrats Eric on a great buck .
